Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
