Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities issued video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
