The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
