The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
